Circi-City

The City of Technology
by Richard Grzela Edited by Jim Butler

Population 29 million as accepted globally

The largest city on the western continent is the capital, which lies on the peninsula on the north west side of the main land. An ocean surrounds the west coast, to the south the swamp land is rich with nutrients that make agriculture a prime resource for the western hemisphere.

Having no recorded beginnings, Circi-City is alleged to have been born; though no records exists around the time the human uprising erupted in the Far East. It is believed that a few demons took what slaves they could and evacuated to the west to continue the life of leisure that they have enjoyed for so long before the inconvenience of the rebellion.

Around 50 million years ago the demons worldwide were destroyed or vanished all together. It was one human slave who broke away or possibly a bunch of them were left behind to fend for them selves in the west. The reason for the demons disappearance is unclear again. What is known is that the humans that were left began a new life as what they called year one.

This small tribe of human slaves took the skills that they mastered for the demons and developed basic tools and built for themselves a small functioning community. A task that was more of habit then a set planned choices of will by the group. The difference now was that the resources that they were developed were theirs for consumption. This wealth of skills, choice and freedom truly left them in a state of disarray, as they now were able to fully enjoy the fruits of their labors.

By year 3 the humans had erected a large communal home made of clay and timber, collected a wealth of wood, water and even started to use basic steam and water power to make tasks more efficient. All members' lives were lived through work and sleep to ensure that the other was kept and cared for, as was the way under the demon rule.

Year 5 was a monumental on as the tribe began to grow and new tasks had to be assigned. This was when the first tribal chief was selected. Chief Kootay Bayen issued that the family is first and the community was second. This ensured that the young tribal members would always be cared for. The second communal home was built on top of the first doubling the size of the tribe and its workspace. This was the first true multipurpose facility the world had ever known.

This method of functioning had become so effective for the tribe that by year 20 several other tribes built similar structures to join Chief Kootay Bayen. In return for his tribes success the following tribes had to give on elder from the following tribe to Chief Kootay Bayen's tribe for the secrets of the social effectiveness his people had developed. This became the worlds first trade contact.

Year 25 left the united tribes in ruin. A hurricane ripped past the village in a super storm. Even this disaster held promise for the tribe's people. All the things that they had lost in material possessions could be remade. It was the power of the storm itself that displayed to the people that wind and electrical forces could have a hand in developing ideas to make things better in the future.

By year 38 Chief Kootay Bayen had the community homes fully rebuilt and molded from the ground with glass from lighting strikes, reinforced with wood and clay. With trial and error the tribe discovered that metal partials could be laced through the glass to provide light, warmth and heat water for all tribe members.

By year 40 the large village was now up to 1.5 million. The tribal culture now basked in the industrial, artistic, revolution. Private tribes beyond the glass fortress began to donate land in exchange for the resources the mega tribe held and shared quite freely. It was in the year 42 that Chief Kootay Bayen passed on from the mortal plane. On his final day he offered on final request to the elders, specifically to the members of the immediate tribe. They all were to be guaranteed the basics of food, water, and shelter with power. In return the tribe members must contribute to the improvement of the tribal community equally. Those that failed to provide for the other were no to be welcomed here in Circi-City.

By year 55 the community was more unified as ever as ever person was cared for. Harvests were shared equally and distributed to those who could not come to the communal home. All members were given finished products in return for their contribution of raw materials, or simply caring for those in need were rewarded for the efforts they took to care for the sick and weak. Members further ensured the tribe saw to the others success with their lives by sharing all additional tasks.

By year 80 the selfish revolution began. It was called this because quality of products dropped and many people felt that they gave far more then they were receiving from the tribal community several million large. Most tribe members wanted more free time, less work and wanted to experience life out side the walls of the structured community. It was Cypress Redcorn, doctor and inventor who created the first robot. The idea was to have a device that could ease the physical workload on the community. It was his dream to see a robot in the home of every tribe member and to have free time used for family and innovation. This proposal and idea gained him the post of first governor of Circi-City in the year 85. Cypress Redcorn established the first robot institute of Circi-City. The governor stayed true to his word and the inspired innovation lead to more robotic designs and functions that truly made life easier for all in the community as a whole.

By year 105, 2.5 million people from various tribes permanently joined the Circi-City community. With the new technology in place, the community continued to function under the rule to support one another with the joy of the new technology to aid the progression and growth of the population.

By year 150, the community hit the record 5 million number and steel and metals were beginning to reach its height of manufacturing as products. This was a key component to having the community develop the first artificial intelligence android. Ian Mecca created micro interfacing metallic parts that allowed robots to function smoother, faster and timed better to complete tasks as required. By creating the learning robots he ensured that the skills of the past would forever live on into the future so long as machines still had power. This lead to the biggest Industrial boom the world would ever know. Robots now handled 55% of all labor. Most household tasks were handled by androids.

By year 155 the androids demanded their own free society. It was granted under the terms of the founding fathers. All must contribute to the tribe equally or they would not be welcomed. This also caused a depression in the trades market. Companies not people suffered, as they could not meet the demands of the outside world. Circi-City was sustained due to the original promise made that all would be given food, water, shelter, clothing and power. Those beyond the wall faired far worse then ever before, not realizing how dependant they have become on the huge tribal city.

Year 210 sparked a creative revolution. A number of people developed new works of art that were both functional and beautiful. These pieces were used a power sources, decorations, architectural icons and storage space for industrial and home use. This innovation grew a people who were once displaced by mechanized work force found a rejuvenated source of inspiration. People became programmers, miners of raw materials, technicians and maintained equipment or supported staff all looking to improve on old items or preserve the new to see how far things could develop. This reduced the value of machines and androids in the lives of people.

By 550, the population was at a resounding 15 million. The easy life and massive opportunity in the area of robotics contributed to the massive growth. Unfortunately the artificial intelligence was counted in the census and they are not recognized as sentient beings and discounted as a false counts. Circi-City refused a recount since granting the Artificial intelligences a status as a separate free society with in the city.

By 589 the city held it's first technological expo. This brought visitors from around the world to see the wonders that had been developed in the city. This brought Industrial Icons from every industry looking to improve upon their own businesses. It was at the Expo where the first Biological clone was introduced. The medical community around the world was in awe as tissue and cells were harvested and grown, manipulated and improved to create the perfect body with gene or genetic therapy. This Expo had over 20 million visitors and was credited with being the catalyst for the most every technological innovation for the following two decades.

Year 625 was the beginning for the First World War against the invading naturalist. Unlike other cities around the world, Circi-City was as large as any nation and did not suffer from the drawbacks one would from a lack of resources. The people of Circi-City have always been a sharing people and aided both sides equally as was decreed from the beginning of time. It was this kindness that allows them to continue to prosper under the worst war the world had ever seen. Mikal Mazwada recognized this kindness and negotiated a peaceful agreement to operate with fair balanced growth. Circi-City would forever see the wood warden as a friend, not a foe to the tribal balance of life as a whole united front.

In the year 745 the first artificial life forms established a voice in politics by forming there own party. Which gained full recognition in the year 750.

In the year 999 a computer virus broke out corrupting all forms of artificial life and electronics. It was the worst 5 years of corruption and misuse of power ever seen by citizens of Circi-City.

By the year 1030, Urban Greer's influence over the artificial life in the city was so harmful that he promised to fix the virus problem for their votes in the next election. This digital black mail was his attempt to reduce the artificial intelligences to thinking slaves.

By year 1035 a programmer came up with an answer to the tyranny of Urban Greer. Nelson Mistar started to offer free downloads, and interface stations to purge viruses and reboot systems. Over night Nelson became a hero to artificial intelligences, reducing Urban Greer to an outcast of the city. By the year 1478 Doctor Whistler Geodesk commercialized medical gene therapy improving the life span of westerners by an average of 12 years.

By year 1512 Circi-City hit a new population height of 22 million. Still living with strong traditional tribal beliefs of family first and community second, the community continued to embrace others that wanted to join the city tribe. The once humble multi-service community buildings now stretched over 20 miles into the sky.

The year 1512 brought to the fore front continental travel with the introduction of new cars, planes bikes, gliders, hovers, and lifts. All of these devices were commonplace in the mega city. With the introduction of transport pods inside the city the new vehicles where seeing more uses beyond the city. Stanley Blackdrop who envisioned an affordable mode of transportation that all could enjoy established a solar cell power system that could be retrofitted onto all vehicles and travel devices in the western world. Stanley Blackdrop also developed (S.E.T.H.), Solar, Electrical, Transport, and Hover. It was the first large affordable transport that allowed up to 1000 passengers to go across the ocean to the eastern land and surrounding islands beyond the city in a circular circuit. This made tourism explode internationally.

1602 brought a new record to Circi-city. The population was at 27 million. International tourism and comforts of the city brought many people from the corners of the earth to the city. The city also has an additional 50 million transitional visitors per year. This is a trend that has put the whole city under huge amounts of pressure to provide for visitors. This pressure has the city continuing on going discussions with naturalist to accommodate the food supply for that many visitors.

1612 marked one break through in talks with naturalists. The answer was that the city began to build a 20-mile high green house. In return the naturalist were able to staff their people to ensure plants and the cultivation of natural life kept a place in the rapidly developing modern city. This structure recycled water, over growth clippings, food waste and provided fertilizer from the population to feed the plants and bring a complete cycle of growth to the city that catered to the visitors and city members.

In the year 1657 the city leaders made the decision to no longer build homes for migrant arriving to the city. Housing would be controlled and monitored for current citizens that had lived in the city for the last five years and have been registered in the census as living in one place for that long. That meant that children of the city would have first pick of the homes available and others would have to rent or move on. The city would be inherited by the tribal bloodlines and citizens would be better suited for the future that they planned for. This hard mandate was delivered after corruption from migrants diminished the quality of life for long term citizens.

In 1659 the city census which included transitional population of 60 million people unofficially made Circi-City the largest and oldest location of tribal peoples. It was also the cheapest place to live if you were a direct descendant of the population's original tribe. Marbalonia refused to recognize that claim as the census again took into account the artificial intelligence that had managed to learn and adapt as well as living beings could.

In 1707 the Blackdrop family was recognized as the world wealthiest. The family lead by Stanley Blackdrop continued to add his innovation as a member of Circi-Cities oldest tribe of technicians. So wealthy they had become that they had even surpassed that of the royal family in Marbalonia. The Emperor took special interest in this fact and had befriended Stanley Blackdrop and encouraged him to continue his work in the east as well.

1818, was the Blackdrop family's' move to the political world. They conducted a fully worked out census of every sentient being in Circi-City. It took into account transitional living beings as well as artificial intelligences. Those that owned homes, and lived in group homes. The result was astonishing as listed here.

29 million humanoid beings lived in the city. 150 million artificial intelligences lived in the city in homes, factories and offices. 72 million transitional visitors came to the city in a year with 30% being artificial intelligences. 40% humanoid beings, 30% were magical or supernatural in nature.

That totaled a one-year population of 251 million visitors on average to the city.

The eastern world, along with the capital of Marbalonia still refused to acknowledge the claim stating that artificial pets are not viable population consideration because they could effectively exist forever. As a political stand the city province of Circi-City has never again published or pursued the census stating that those living in the city will be taxed accordingly. And any accounting that is done will be kept in city archives for reference and averaging growth into the future of the city.

1728 to 1940 was an era of consistency. Growth was controlled with new policies and the city is still booming with automation. The population has seen so much care from the artificial intelligences that they are now acting much like the demons of old did. Looking to hedonistic pursuits is more of a full time job for some then a past time of the privilege. Medical, technological advancements have gained such high levels of refinement that the average age of the city population exceeds 80 years. Again the census information is not published or released.

Rumor & Speculation

It is said by tourist that the people of Circi-City are the most beautiful in the world, as they do not have to torment themselves with the labors of daily life. They are physically fragile and mentally delicate when faced with criticisms. Many do not fair well beyond the accommodations of the city. Those brave enough to leave the city excel in areas of technology, art and personal care, which is in high demand in other cities. Just be careful about hiring one for traditional trades positions. They tend not to last three days.
